JD (S) dashes off KCR's PM dreams!

The latest decision of the Janata Dal (S) in Karnataka to have an electoral understanding with the Congress party in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections as well has upset the plans of Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and his dreams of playing a big role in national politics, eventually becoming the Prime Minister, if god willing.

The JD (S) has joined hands with the Congress party to form the government in Karnataka. Its president and former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda declared that the alliance between the two parties would continue even in the Lok Sabha elections.

And it appears the Congress party is ready to make similar experiments in northern states as well – like supporting the SP-BSP combine in Uttar Pradesh as was evident from the recent by-elections to Kairana Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh.

In Jharkhand and Bihar, too, the Congress extended support to the local regional parties to win the by-elections.

Thus, it appears it is the Congress which is taking the initiative of building up an anti-BJP alliance. As a result, the chances of KCR coming out with the proposal to float an anti-Congress, anti-BJP federal front appear to be very bleak.

He cannot join the anti-BJP front because it would benefit the Congress party, which is his main enemy in the Telangana.

In fact, the regional parties which have been facing the brunt of the BJP, have realised that the federal front proposal would only help the BJP, as all the parties with which KCR had negotiated were only the UPA allies.

He has not made any attempt to attract the pro-BJP regional parties into the third front.

So, the latest developments consolidating the Congress-led front have dashed off KCR’s dreams. It remains to be seen whether he would change his strategy in the coming days.
