Case Against Chowdhury For Allegedly Taking 1 Crore Bribe

The Hyderabad Police have booked Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 1.75 crore and promising an assembly election ticket to a woman.

She has been booked for cheating and criminal intimidation.

"Mr Naik's wife, B Kalavati, has alleged that she was abused by Ms Chowdhury, a Congress lawmaker, when was sought to be returned," said Khammam Circle Inspector Mr Sridhar.

Terming the charge as politically motivated she says, "it's a politically motivated charge" and dared the complainant to furnish proof.

The case was registered following an order from the Hyderabad High Court on a complaint by Ms Kalavati, who has also alleged that her husband died in October last year because he was weighed under the pressure of the debts they incurred to raise the money.

The First Information Report, which was registered on March 16, alleges that the incident took place on May 30, 2013. Elections in an undivided Andhra Pradesh were held along with the national elections in May last year.
