A Real Stunner: Congress Starts 'VHP' Like Outfit

The Congress has always positioned itself as the champion of secularism in the country, promoting minority issues even when they were sometimes not according to the principle of 'fair play' and detrimental to the overall interests of the nation.

The Party has had to pay a dear price for this approach by tasting a humiliating defeat at the hands of the BJP in the recent general elections.

A greater section of the population in India increasingly views the Congress today as an ‘anti-Hindu’ Party.

In a bid to woo the Hindu voter back to its fold, the Congress has done the unthinkable. In Karnataka, the Congress has unofficially backed the formation of a new outfit called ‘Bharatiya Hindu Parishat’.

This outfit is a brainchild of Karnataka Congressman, Hemanth Shetty and is expected to counter the aggressive right-wing groups of the BJP.

The launch of the outfit had the fervor of a religious ceremony, with the chanting of ‘Vishnu Sahasranama’ and ‘Ganesha’ hymns followed by a ‘Satyanarayana puja’.

“We cannot shut ourselves to the majority and hope to do well in the elections,” a Congress Party worker said.

Well, well, well! What next, Congress? A movement for a ‘Ram Mandir’ in Ayodhya?
