Will it be Pawan-Jagan combo in next polls?

Power star and Jana Sena Party president Pawan Kalyan has recently declared that his party would contest all the 175 assembly constituencies in Andhra Pradesh in the 2019 elections.

At the same time, YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy had already declared that he would go it alone in the next elections without forging any alliance with any party.

Since he has already made a lot of inroads into the ruling party bastions, he is confident of coming to power all alone.

However, there is a talk doing rounds in the political circles that both the parties might have some secret understanding, if not forging a pre-poll alliance, so as to defeat the Telugu Desam Party.

According to these reports, the advisors to both the parties reportedly arrived at a conclusion that if they contested separately, Naidu would scrape through and retain power.

So, it is better the YSRC and JSP come together and have an understanding.

“If it is a pre-poll alliance it is all the more beneficial. If it does not happen, they should at least have an understanding on a friendly contest where the TDP is relatively stronger,” a political analyst said.

The problem, however, is whether Pawan Kalyan would compromise on power and agree to work with Jagan.

Though he wants the ouster of Naidu, it would no way help him as Jagan would replace him. And Pawan would end up playing second fiddle to Jagan, as his brother Chiranjeevi had done for the Congress.

At the same time, it is also doubtful whether Jagan would ever tolerate the ego of Pawan Kalyan. Those who know Jagan’s mentality say he would never allow an alternative power centre within the party. He would definitely crush Pawan.

“However, nothing is impossible in politics. If they join hands with the common objective of pulling down Naidu from power, they could think of sharing power at a later stage. The question is whether they have such a temperament,” the analyst added.
