Why KCR Wants Early Elections in Telangana?

Telangana Rashtra Samithi president and caretaker chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has given a strange reason for the dissolution of the state assembly on Thursday, which is far from convincing.

He told the media at the Telangana Bhavan that he had dissolved the assembly nine months in advance because he was fed up with the growing attacks on his government from the opposition parties.

“There is a political fragility in the state now. The opposition parties, particularly the Congress party, have been making serious allegations against me and my government without any evidence,” he said.

He pointed out that the Opposition parties were moving courts to stall the projects, holding round-table conferences to spread canards against the government schemes and making allegations of corruption in every programme.

“This is nothing but an attempt to demoralise us and discourage us from going ahead in the path of development. That is precisely why we have decided to dissolve the assembly and seek fresh mandate from the people so the wheels of progress can continue to roll and there will be no more hindrance to the development and welfare for another five years,” KCR said.

Party sources, however, said there were multiple reasons for KCR’s decision.

“First, there have been reports of the consolidation of opposition votes in the state with various anti-TRS forces joining hands together. So, he wants to pre-empt any such consolidation,” a source said.

Secondly, there is generally a positive atmosphere in the state for TRS due to Rythu Bandhu and Rythu Beema schemes now, besides copious rains and good crops. The Mission Bhagiratha is almost complete and irrigation projects are in full swing.

“So, it is the right time to cash in on this favourable atmosphere,” sources said.

Thirdly, KCR is also apprehensive that Seemandhra settlers in Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts might turn against the TRS, if the Congress and TDP come together.

Fourthly, KCR does not want to have any impact of the election results to four states on Telangana, as the chances of Congress coming to power in these states are bright.

And lastly, if the elections to Telangana are held simultaneously with Lok Sabha, the voters might be influenced by national factors, which KCR does not want.
