Why CID, why not CBI probe, Mr Kodela?

Andhra Pradesh assembly speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao’s decision to order a probe by Crime Investigation Department (CID) of the Andhra Pradesh police into the leakage of water in the chambers of Leader of Opposition Y S Jaganmohan Reddy in the newly-built assembly building in Velagapudi Secretariat complex has not gone down well with the YSR Congress party.

Pooh-poohing the Speaker’s decision, YSRC legislator Alla Ramakrishna Reddy said there was indeed a conspiracy angle in the leakage of rain water in the chambers of Jaganmohan Reddy.

“Yes, there is a conspiracy in the entire construction of Secretariat and the assembly. And it has to be probed into. But the probe has to be done by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and not the CID, which functions under the control of the government,” Reddy said.

Reddy wondered why the Speaker was trying to throw the blame on the YSR Congress party instead of rectifying the flaws in the construction of the building.

“Why did he not allow the media into the assembly? It would have exposed how the entire assembly building complex, not just Jagan’s chambers, was leaking with just one pre-monsoon shower,” he said.

He said a large number of irregularities had taken place right from the awarding of contract to construction of the interim secretariat complex.

“If the government is sincere, it should order a CBI probe into the awarding of contracts,” Reddy added.
