Professor Kodandaram wanted the TRS government to declare drought in Telangana. This will bring in central assistance.
Kodandaram said that states like Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Karnataka have declared several mandals in their states as drought areas bringing in central aid.
He said that the number of farmer suicides in those states was far lesser compared to Telangana.
What Kodandaram should have been advocating for was the steps taken to alleviate the misery of farmers in Telangana. Besides, why should the central government step in to help a state which is the only state in the country after Gujarat to have a surplus budget?
It’s similar to Sania Mirza driving around in a Porsche and then asking the Central government for money to prepare for the Olympics.
