What's Wrong With Smart Survey?

Is there any secret agenda behind the conduct of the smart pulse survey being conducted by the Chandrababu Naidu government in Andhra Pradesh?

Well, that is what former Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker Nadendla Manohar feels. He says he is strongly opposing the survey.

“Going by the way questions are being asked, one gets suspicion that the survey is meant for weeding out beneficiaries of various government schemes, so as to reduce the burden on the government. Apart from asking questions, the enumerators are asking 25 different types of documents during the survey. There is every possibility of these papers going into the hands of anti-social elements,” he said.

Does it mean Nadendla is suspecting that the Naidu government will hand over these papers to anti-social elements? In fact, when the UPA government launched Aadhar project, too, the enumerators asked 101 questions. And there is no worse survey than this.

Similar doubts were raised when the Telangana government, too, conducted social security survey in 2014. But the survey data has not seen the light of the day and one does not know what benefits it has given or what benefits it has denied to the people.

It is just an exercise to hoodwink the people to show that the government is really going to do something for them. But nothing comes out ultimately.
