What's Naidu Contribution To Polavaram?

What's Naidu Contribution To Polavaram?

The demand for construction of Polavaram major irrigation project has been there for several decades, but the project had not moved an inch in the past.

And it is a known fact that the project gained momentum only during the regime of late Y S Rajasekhar Reddy who managed to get maximum clearances to the project.

After the project was made part of the AP Reorganisation Act, the Centre has begun acting on it. Since Telugu Desam Party headed by N Chandrababu Naidu came to power, he has started taking credit for the same, as if he is the kartha, karma and kriya of the project.

But Naidu is shying away from the debate as to what his contribution to the project is. On Sunday, senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member K V P Ramachandra Rao dashed of yet another letter to Naidu challenging the chief minister for a public debate on Polavaram project.

“You decide the place, whether it is in Vijayawada or any other place. Let us have a debate as to who has done what for the project,” KVP said in the letter.

He demanded that the Naidu government come out with all facts about Polavaram project by publishing a white paper for the people.

KVP recalled that during the YSR regime, the government had called for public hearings on 31 projects at the project sites. The Opposition parties who accused YSR of corruption could not prove even a single allegation.

“If you have guts, don’t hesitate to call for a public debate on Polavaram,” he challenged.

He said Naidu had not even one per cent contribution to the Polavaram project. He took severe objection to Naidu’s claims that the opposition parties are against the project creating obstacles.
