The government of AP will soon issue a notification for acquiring another 5000 acres of land in the new capital region. This land will be given as compensation to the Singapore firms for their role in the development of the new capital.
The government is saying that it is trying to convince the Singaporeans to go in for another form of payment but the latter only want land apparently.
This means another 5000 acres gone in the name of new capital and the lives of more farmers wrecked. There seems to be no end in sight to the real-estate drama being played out by the government in the name of new capital.
And ironically, they may be partners but there is nothing similar about their policies.
Modi is touring the whole planet and asking companies to ‘make in India’ and here we have an alliance partner, the TDP completely outsourcing the construction of the new capital to Singapore and Japanese firms. Politics indeed makes for strange bedfellows!
