What Stopped KCR From Dissolving House?

When the Telangana Rashtra Samithi held such a massive public meeting on the outskirts of Hyderabad with lakhs of people, there were naturally expectations that party president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao would make the crucial announcement on the conduct of early elections to the state assembly.

Even KCR's son K T Rama Rao told the media a couple of days before that there would be some big announcements from his father at the public meeting.

His daughter Kavitha also said it would be better to listen to his father talking on the early polls than making speculations.

Added to this, KCR called for a cabinet meeting hours before the commencement of the public meeting. This led to the speculation that KCR would announce the dissolution of the assembly and tell the people that he was going in for early elections.

But that did not happen surprisingly. All that he said at the meeting was that his party leaders and ministers authorised him to take a decision on early polls and that he would announce a decision very shortly.

In a way, he admitted that the party is seriously contemplating dissolution of the assembly.

But, why didn’t he make the announcement or take a decision on the dissolution of the assembly? Party sources says KCR thought of doing it at an auspicious day, instead of the public meeting.

“At the time of the cabinet meeting, Ashtami tithi entered and it is very inauspicious day to take such important decisions. Both Ashtami and Navami are bad days. Dasami is likely to enter in Tuesday afternoon.

“So, he might call for a cabinet meeting on September 4 or 5. In  all probability, he might take a decision on Ekadasi or Dwadasi, which is September 5 or 6, as both days are auspicious,” the party leader said.
