What Action EC Will Take Against Jagan?

The Election Commission of India has taken serious note of the tone and tenor of the aggressive comments made by YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy against Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu during his speeches in Nandyal as part of his election campaign.

According to a communique from the Chief Election Commissioner, the comments made by Jagan that Naidu should be shot dead on roads, hanged in public, beaten with chappals and stripped of his shirt amount to gross violation of election code of conduct and therefore, he is liable for serious action.

The CEC asked the Returning Officer to take stern action against the YSRC president and send him the action taken report.

However, it is not clear what action the returning officer would have to take Jagan.

“The punishment could be anything -- from imposing a penalty to barring him from contesting elections in the coming years. It all depends on what the Returning Officer would decide. But if the action is very serious like banning Jagan from  the elections, he can as well move the court,” sources say.
