It appears the Chandrababu Naidu government has allowed big political sharks quietly escape in the multi-crore Visakhapatnam land scam while making the officials as scapegoats.
The Special Investigation Team of the police, which has been sitting on the investigation for quite some time, is understood to have submitted a report to district collector, holding as many as 22 officials responsible for the alleged tampering of records.
However, no action was recommended against the big politicians who encroached upon the lands taking advantage of the tampering of records.
According to sources, the Visakhapatnam district collector issued notices to the 22 officials, including11 Tahsildars, three retired Tahsildars, three deputy Tahsildars and five VROs.
Criminal cases have been registered against six private individuals, who are said to be local land grabbers.
The SIT recommended departmental action against government officials and employees for their alleged interference with sixty files.
The collector ordered investigation to be carried out by deputy collector for six specific files. As such, the big land grabbers have gone scot free!
