VH bracelet fetches Rs 20 lakh to chilli farmers!

The bracelet donated by former Rajya Sabha member V Hanumantha Rao to former Sangareddy MLA T Jayaprakash Reddy alias Jagga Reddy finally fetched Rs 20 lakh for the red chill farmers of Khammam and Warangal districts, who suffered heavy losses due to lack of remunerative price for their produce.

It may be mentioned that VH had donated his four-tola gold bracelet to Jagga Reddy, following a casual suggestion from Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi while addressing a public meeting at Sangareddy on June 1.

Rahul was so happy with the meeting that he asked VH to reward Jagga Reddy suitably, as the latter had made all the arrangments for the public meeting at his own expense.

When VH said he had nothing with him except his bracelet, the Congress boss suggested that he could gift the bracelet to Jagga Reddy.

The very next day, VH presented the bracelet to Jagga Reddy in the presence of media, stating that he could not say no, if Rahul ordered him to do.

Instead of keeping the gift with him, Jagga Reddy auctioned the bracelet at Press Club on Friday.

In the bid, which was attended by half a dozen bidders, T Mahender Reddy of Krushi Builders from Patancheru bagged the bracelet for Rs 20 lakh.

Jagga Reddy said the amount would be distributed among the red chill farmers of Khammam and Warangal, who had suffered huge losses.

“Rahul was very much pained to know that some farmers had to be arrested and handcuffed when they agitated for better price for their crop. On behalf of the Congress party, I will donate the money to the farmers,” he said.
