V6 Challenges BARC Suspension In Court

Popular Telugu television channel V6 has challenged in a Mumbai court the decision of Broadcast Audience Research Council India (BARC India) to suspend its ratings for some weeks.

V6 along with TV9 and a couple of other channels were suspended from ratings on November 24 by BARC India on the grounds of irregularities in hiking channel viewership.

Media buying and planning (advertising) agencies and brands had reacted strongly or cautiously when it came to commenting on famous yet delinquent channels.

The Bombay High Court on December 6 stayed the suspension of ratings review of India News even as BARC hinted at continuing its crusade.

Describing the suspension of India News ratings as ‘arbitrary and illegal’, the court stated that the suspension and subsequent communication to all the subscribers has prima-facie been seen as a reputation-maligning action.

V6 CEO Ankam Ravi told a media house that the channel had filed a suit against the suspension of V6 review by BARC India. TV9 Telugu shied from reacting or commenting on BARC India action or the court stay.
