TRS Gets Official Recognition In RS!

TRS Gets Official Recognition In RS!

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi has won the last general elections with a thumping majority in 2014. Apart from winning the state assembly elections and forming government in the Centre, the TRS also won 11 Lok Sabha seats.

Its strength in Lok Sabha grew to 14 later with the defection of three MPs from other parties – one each from Congress, TDP and YSR Congress party.

However, in Rajya Sabha, the TRS hardly had any representation. In the last four years, the TRS had only three RS seats and was not given the status of a recognised political party.

The TRS MPs were placed in ‘others’ category in the Upper House. They never used to get the chance of speaking in the House for more than three minutes, while all the other MPs of recognised parties used to get allotted a specific time.

Now with the TRS winning three more Rajya Sabha seats in the just concluded elections taking its overall strength to six, it has now got the official recognition as a political party in the upper house.

This has fetched the TRS a place in the front rows of Rajya Sabha with a floor leader status. At the same time, it also gets a place in the Business Advisory Committee that decides business and time allotment in the House.

Now it remains to be seen who the TRS floor leader would be in Rajya Sabha. In all probability, senior MP K Kesava Rao could get the chance, party sources said.
