Telangana TDP Loses Yet Another Leader

The Telangana Telugu Desam Party has lost one more important leader on Tuesday, with former minister and senior leader from Bhongir Uma Madhava Reddy deciding to join the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi.

Uma, who has been sailing with the TDP ever since her husband late home minister A Madhava Reddy who was killed by Naxalites in a bomb explosion at Ghatkesar in 1999, met TRS president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, along with her son Sandeep Reddy in Hyderabad on Tuesday evening.

She and her son would be formally inducted into the TRS on December 14.

In fact, Uma’s quitting the TDP has been cards ever since Kodangal MLA A Revanth Reddy resigned from the party to join the Congress.

At one stage, she said she, too, would have gone to Delhi along with Revanth to join the Congress, but she did not, as there was no concrete assurance from the Congress high command about the position she would be getting there.

She is learnt to have asked the TRS leadership to give party ticket for her son Sandeep in the assembly elections, while she would be happy to play a key role in the party. Sandeep has earned a good name as the TDP leader in Bhongir.

With Uma also leaving the TDP, the party has been left any other leader in Telangana. It is only a matter of time that Sattupalli MLA Sandra Venkata Veeraiah also would quit the TDP and only R Krishnaiah from L B Nagar would be left in the party.

However, he, too, declared that he is not keen on contesting on TDP ticket next time. There will be a few other leaders like E Peddi Reddy, Mothkupalli Narsimhulu and L Ramana still in the TDP, but it remains to be seen how long they would sustain the party in Telangana.
