TDP to say bye-bye to BJP on Friday?

It looks like the time is up for the Telugu Desam Party to continue its reluctant friendship with Bharatiya Janata Party.

According to sources, TDP president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister will say bye-bye to the alliance with the BJP on Friday. His party is likely to pull out of the National Democratic Alliance once and for all.

Naidu called for an emergency meeting of the party’s politburo at his Amaravati residence on Friday evening to take a call on snapping ties with the BJP. He will convey the same to the Delhi later in the evening.

The TDP had already withdrawn two of its ministers from the Narendra Modi cabinet – P Ashok Gajapathi Raju and Y S Chowdary last week, in protest against the injustice meted out to Andhra Pradesh in the Union budget and also non-implementation of promises made in the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014, including granting of special category status to AP.

Though he wanted to continue in the NDA for obtaining the maximum benefits, he is not able to do it, as the Centre has rejected his demands including railway zone for Vizag and granting of viability gap funding for the petro-chemical complex at Kakinada.

But, the immediate provocation for Naidu’s decision was the outburst of actor-turned-Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan against him, his son and the TDP at the Guntur public meeting on Wednesday night.

In his teleconference with the party MPs in the morning, Naidu suspected that the BJP top leadership could be behind the actor’s aggressive attack on the TDP government.
