TDP-Cong pact: Okay in T'gana, not in AP!

TDP-Cong pact: Okay in T'gana, not in AP!

The possible alliance between the Telugu Desam Party and the Congress party has generated a lot of heat and dust in Andhra Pradesh of late, with even senior TDP leaders expressing their reservations about such an alliance.

Senior TDP leader and Anantapur MP J C Diwakar Reddy, who is known for his open talk, also expressed his opposition for such an alliance between the TDP and the Congress party.

He, however, said both the parties can have a pact in Telangana to defeat the TRS government.

“There is nothing wrong in Telugu Desam Party in forging an alliance with the Congress party in Telangana as the TDP does not have any stakes there. Moreover, the people in Telangana have nothing against the TDP, so they will accept the alliance,” he said.

In Andhra Pradesh, it is not advisable on the part of the TDP to join hands with the Congress because the people have rejected the latter completely for dividing the state.

“They are still angry with the Congress. At this stage, any pact with the Congress will have an adverse effect on the TDP, which is planning to come to power in the state again. And since the Congress does not have any stakes in AP, any alliance with it will not help the TDP in any manner,” he explained.

JC, however, did not rule out the possibility of the TDP joining the Congress front after the elections.

“We believed the BJP in the past and were thoroughly cheated. So, what’s wrong in believing the Congress after the polls?” he asked.
