Bharatiya Janata Party floor leader K Laxman’s strong opposition to Telangana government’s decision to make tennis star Sania Mirza as the brand ambassador of the new State found a surprising support from the Telangana Congress leaders.
Telangana PCC president Ponnala Lakshmaiah came out in support of Laxman. The PCC president said Sania did not deserve the honour.
“She cannot be the brand image of Telangana and Hyderabad. She is a tennis player. How can she fit into the brand image of Hyderabad and Telangana?” he asked.
Congress MP V Hanumanth Rao, too, expressed the same views.
Rao said, “The Chief Minister insists nativity status to Andhra students for fee reimbursement but makes an outsider as the brand ambassador. She never fought for Telangana. Moreover she is married to a Pakistani. People will not appreciate this decision.”
