All hopes on securing special category status to Andhra Pradesh have evaporated with two senior ministers – Jayant Sinha and Arun Jaitely – making it clear that there is no such possibility and that the Centre would grant funds only as per the recommendations of the 14th finance commission and Niti Ayog.
But, wait, there is still some hope, according to die hard optimists. And the only hope is power star Pawan Kalyan. If gives up all his other activity including films and concentrate only on launching an agitation, the Centre might come forward with a plan for special status.
“Only Pawan Kalyan has the power to shake the Centre. Let him sit on a hunger strike or take out a rally; see, how many lakhs would join him,” a Seemandhra leader said.
He suggests that Naidu should push the ball into the court of Pawan Kalyan and take care of all his interests to make him plunge into action.
“And if Naidu also joins Pawan Kalyan in the fast unto death, it would fetch tremendous political mileage for the TDP and with the support of Jana Sena, it can bounce back in the next elections. With this one stroke, he can keep YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy and the Congress party at bay,” he said.
