Slow Pace Of Land Acquisition!

In what could be worrying signs for the government, the ‘Capital Regional Development Authority’ (CRDA) has only managed to acquire 2000 acres out of the 30000 acres identified under the first phase of the land pooling.

The CRDA believes it can acquire the remaining land in about nine months and is brainstorming ways and means to make the farmers part with their lands.

One such incentive now being offered by the CRDA is: Once the farmers are allotted the commercial and residential plots within 5kms radius of their original land, they need not wait for it to be developed and can sell it straightaway.

While the CRDA is only doing its job, it might become tougher for them in the coming months as the resistance to land acquisition is growing by the day with heavyweights such as Medha Patkar stepping into the fray in support of the ryots.
