The recent defection of firebrand Kodangal MLA A Revanth Reddy from the Telugu Desam Party into the Congress party has turned out to be a blessing in disguise for the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi.
While the defection of Revanth was expected to give a big boost to the Congress party, it has in fact strengthened the TRS.
The Congress party hoped that several TDP leaders from all over the state would make a beeline to it along with Revanth, but only a few leaders joined the party and many others remained in the TDP.
Now, most of the Telangana TDP leaders are said to be of the view that it is better to join the TRS, rather than the Congress, because there are no prospects of the latter coming to power.
The local TRS leaders have been asked to poach as many TDP leaders as possible and see that they do not jump into the Congress or the BJP.
So, Revanth’s defection has ruined the Telangana TDP in a big way, but the benefit has gone to the TRS and not the Congress. In a way, it is a setback to the Congress!
