Restrictions On Media In KCR Regime!

Restrictions On Media In KCR Regime!

It is a fact that there is a mushrooming of media in the Telugu states and whenever there is an official function, a large number of cameramen and photographers assemble to take pictures blocking the view of the audiences.

But that does not legimitise the decision of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi government headed by K Chandrasekhara Rao to impose restrictions on the media, particularly photographers and electronic media in covering the important events like Independence Day celebrations.

On August 15, the government had not allowed photographers and videographers to shoot the Independence Day celebrations held at Golconda Fort. Only the government videographer and photographer were allowed and the photographs and video footage was provided to the media by the government itself. As a result, the media could not provide the real images of people at the function.

This is not fair on the part of the government. If the government itself decides which photograph should be published and which angle the video should be taken, where is the freedom of press? And this is not the first time that media is covering official functions.

Despite the problems of large number of media, the government should make arrangements for them, instead of restricting them.
