There appears to be more to it than what meets the eye behind Telangana Rashtra Samithi president and Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao's decision to take over 11 acres of Osmania University land for construction of houses for weaker sections.
According to sources, the decision would provide an excellent opportunity for the local TRS leaders to make big money. They can collect money from the beneficiaries, promising them houses in the OU premises, which is a prime locality.
A lot of money will also change hands in the construction of houses, which would be entrusted to pro-TRS contractors.
Sources said there is also a possibility that the TRS leaders themselves grab those houses on benami names and then sell them again at a very high rate to people later.
Real beneficiaries continue to stay in slums in the remote areas and even if some of them are allotted houses, the local TRS leaders would forcibly buy them from beneficiaries only to sell them again to others at higher rates. Thus, it could as well turn into a big scam!
