Purandeshwari To Move To UP Politics?

Purandeshwari To Move To UP Politics?

If the reports doing rounds in some media circles are to be believed, former union minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Daggubati Purandeshwari might move to Uttar Pradesh politics soon.

According to these reports, the BJP leadership is contemplating nominating Purandeshwari to Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh in the seat which was vacated by Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar a few months ago.

Parrikar was elected to RS two and a half years ago from Uttar Pradesh when he was made the Union Defence Minister. However, after he was made the Goa chief minister in August this year, he had to quit the RS seat.

Now, no BJP leader in UP is willing to serve the remaining term in the RS. They want to contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections or the full-time Rajya Sabha term.

In April next, as many as eight RS seats will fall vacant in UP and the local BJP leaders want to get elected in these full-fledged elections.

In this backdrop, the party leadership is learnt to have asked Purandeshwari to contest for the RS elections for the remaining two and a half year term. The party also assured to continue her term in the RS for another six years after that.

For Purandeshwari, this is the best offer as she does not have the chance of winning the Lok Sabha elections from Andhra Pradesh on the BJP ticket in the next elections.

If she becomes the RS member, she can as well aspire to become a Union minister again if Modi comes to power again in 2019!
