Paying The Price For Dynamism?

Paying The Price For Dynamism?

Normally, we see in the movies and even in real life: the punishment for honest or capable IAS or IPS officers is transfer.

If an officer is dynamic or result-oriented, then he naturally has the system up in arms against him. a similar scenario is being enacted in Krishna District of Andhra Pradesh.

Mr. Ahmed Babu is a 2003 batch IAS officer who hails from Kerala. Presently he is working as collector of Krishna district.

The people of AP might be more familiar with him as the man who touched the feet of the mother of Manikanta as a mark of respect. For the record, Manikanta was the young man whose organs were donated after he was declared brain dead.

Ahmed Babu has numerous citations and awards to his credit in the field of governance. Is it any wonder then that although he was appointed to the post barely two months ago, he has managed to raise the hackles of practically everyone in the district.

Apart from MLAs and employee union leaders, revenue and panchayat raj staff of the district are up in arms over the manner of functioning of this officer and want him transferred at the earliest.

So much is the opposition to this officer that APNGOs president P Ashok Babu recently led a delegation of union leaders to chief minister Chandrababu Naidu and wanted the collector out.

The officials working under the officer complained that they are scared to answer the calls of the officer. The CM has assured them of action soon.

Ahmed Babu Babu had earlier served as Adilabad collector and had a stint as Hyderabad water board executive director. How will this episode end? Will Naidu chose loyalty over governance or vice versa?
