At a time when it was an open secret that the ruling Telugu Desam Party leaders, backed by senior MLA Bandaru Satyanarayana Murthy, were openly caught on camera while assaulting and stripping a Dalit woman at Jerripothulapalem in Pendurthy mandal on the outskirts of Visakhapatnam, power star and Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan wants to give the benefit of doubt to the TDP.
Though the entire media reported as to who is behind the incident and the police, too, arrested the TDP leaders involved in it, Pawan Kalyan, in his belated tweet, said a helpless woman was brutally by “some political leaders” (reports say they are from TDP).
Nowhere in his statement did the Jana Sena leader point an accusing finger at the ruling party leaders or the MLA.
Interestingly, Pawan also did not want to see any caste angle in the inhuman incident, though it was an issue of a Dalit woman and the accused should have to face action under SC/ST Atrocities (Prevention) Act.
According to him, such atrocities done by a few individuals on a helpless victim or group should not be given caste colour, since the rest of the community has nothing to do with it.
“Crimes done by individuals on others will eventually be portrayed as community clashes. Let us not incite emptions as one has seen the repercussions of Karamchedu and Tsunduru incidents.
Issue being extremely sensitive in nature, any kind of statement without a forethought would create deep fissures between harmonious coexistence of communities.
But if the government doesn’t respond properly, the outcome will not be a pleasant one, as was evident from Rohith Vemula episode,” he pointed out.
He also requested the media to play a constructive and responsible approach than a sensational approach.
And he also gave a piece of advice to the TDP-BJP and YSR Congress party, asking them not to indulge in mud-slinging on each other.
