Officials care a damn for TDP MLAs!

Officials care a damn for TDP MLAs!

Once-bitten-twice-shy, the bureaucrats and officials in the Andhra Pradesh government are simply refusing to yield to the pressures of the public representatives, especially the ruling party leaders and do works that are not according to the rules.

One has seen how former chief secretary IYR Krishna Rao refused to “cooperate” with the TDP leaders in grabbing precious land of Brahmin agraharam in the heart of Vijayawada city. This has finally led to his removal from the post of AP Brahmin Welfare Corporation chairman.

Now, Vijayawada municipal commissioner G Niwas, too, has become a tough nut for the TDP leaders in the city.

The other day, local MLAs Bonda Uma and Md Jaleel Khan were apparently trying to make big money by ensuring that there is no competition for taking up certain roads and other civic works and only one contractor (who is obviously their party leader) filed the tenders.

As per the rules, these single tenders are not valid and so, the commissioner cancelled the tenders, stating that unless there are more than two tenders, the works cannot be grounded.

The agitated MLAs thought of bringing it to the notice of chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, but they could not get the appointment. As a result, they approached IT minister Lokesh, who called for a meeting with the Municipal Commissioner.

Niwas bluntly told the Lokesh as to how approving single tenders was illegal and if somebody moved the court, the entire process would come to a standstill.

He also brought to the notice of Lokesh as to how the TDP leaders were bringing pressure on him to violate rules in other issues as well.

He made it clear that he would strictly go by the rule book and would not succumb to the political pressures!
