Nominated Posts: Naidu Under Pressure!

Ever since Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu has started filling up nominated posts to appease the party leaders in the wake of forthcoming assembly elections, he has been under tremendous pressure.

Last week, Naidu appointed chairpersons for as many as 17 corporations and nominated bodies, besides the prestigious Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams trust board.

Among others who were appointed as chairpersons of various corporations were: Jupudi Prabhakar Rao for AP Scheduled Castes Welfare Corporation, Kothapalli Subba Rayudu for the AP Kapu Welfare Corporation and Varla Ramaiah for AP State Road Transport Corporation.

Former chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy’s brother Nallari Kishore Kumar Reddy was appointed as chairman of AP Water Resources Development Corporation, while S M Ziauddin was made chairman of AP Minority Commission and Mohammad Hidayat of AP Minority Welfare Corporation.

Since then, Naidu has been under pressure from several other aspirants to fill up the vacancies in other corporations.

At the same time, there was also pressure from those who got nominated but were not happy with their posts.

For example, former MLA Challa Ramakrishna Reddy from Kurnool almost threatened to resign from the party, though he was appointed as the chairman of Rayalaseema regional RTC.

He was angry with Naidu for insulting him by giving the post, while his junior Varla Ramakaih was made RTC chairman at the state level.

As a result, the chief minister had to call Challa to Vijayawada and pacify him. Finally, he offered the post of AP Civil Supplies Corporation.

Similarly, Nallari Kishore Kumar Reddy was also said to be upset with the post of AP Water Resources Development Corporation chairman, as he felt it had no glamour. Since Naidu desperately wait Nallari brothers’ support in Chittoor, he succumbed to pressure and changed Nallari’s post to Chairman of AP Housing Development Corporation.
