No takers for Jagan's no-trust move?

No takers for Jagan's no-trust move?

YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy is said to be in second thoughts over moving no-confidence motion against Andhra Pradesh assembly speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao for behaving in a partisan manner in the House.

Jagan on Thursday announced that his party will move the motion as they have lost confidence in the Speaker. He alleged that the Speaker is working only at the behest of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP).

Apparently, Jagan was anguished over the way Kodela was throttling the voice of the opposition which questioned the government over the alleged involvement of Agriculture Minister P. Pulla Rao in the purchase of Agri Gold properties.

However, Jagan requires the support of at least 50 MLAs to move the no-confidence motion against the Speaker.

At present, he has just 46 MLAs, after the defection of 21 MLAs into the TDP. At the same time, some of the senior MLAs did not evince much interest in the no-confidence motion as several such attempts in the past did not succeeed.

“It is a mere waste of time. The Speaker would anyway not allow division of vote but go by the voice vote. So, the motion is going to be defeated,” they reportedly told him.

Jagan, too, has realised the futility of moving such a motion. Hence, it is better to drop the idea than losing face in the assembly, the seniors told him.
