No 'bandh-gala' suit for Naidu!

No 'bandh-gala' suit for Naidu!

Former union minister for information and broadcasting M Venkaiah Naidu, whose election as Vice President of India on Saturday is a foregone conclusion, is going to be different from his predecessors in one aspect.

All these years, we have been witnessing Presidents and Vice Presidents in a typical attire – wearing full suit or mostly “bandh-gala” Jodhpuri suit. But, Venkaiah has declared that he is not going to change his present typical Telugu attire –white khadi laalchi and lungi which he has been used to wear for several years.

“I am not going to change my dress in whatever position I am. I want to maintain my own style,” Venkaiah said in Delhi.

Well, at least now, one can see a Telugu-looking Vice President after a long time. The only image that we remember a President or Vice President in lungi or dhoti was perhaps Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. But, he was wearing a bandh-gala suit over a dhoti!
