In a major twist to the Nayeemuddin case, the Special Investigation Team of the Telangana police is learnt to have arrested a senior politician, along with a police officer at Bengaluru on Monday, on the charges of assisting the dreaded gangster.
Though there is no official confirmation from the SIT authorities, leaks given to the media revealed that the police officer and the politician, both from Nalgonda district, have been arrested by the SIT authorities in Bengaluru.
Already eight officers with known links to Nayeem have been served memos and all of them were asked to surrender their service weapons.
It is learnt the SIT has recommended withdrawal of all the licensed weapons being used by the Nalgonda politicians. Already notices have been issued to several politicians and the licenses of some other leaders have been cancelled.
Two additional SPs, three DSPs and three CIs have been asked to surrender their service weapons.
