Naidu To Push Reddy Into Safe Zone?

Naidu To Push Reddy Into Safe Zone?

If the reports from the Telugu Desam Party in Andhra Pradesh are to be believed, former minister and party MLC from Nellore Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy is likely to be made the chairman of Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council soon.

At present, veteran Congress leader A Chakrapani is the chairman of the Legislative Council, but his term will come to end by March. So, the Naidu government is looking for an able replacement for Chakrapani and finally, he is said to have zeroed in on Somireddy.

There is more than one reason for considering Somireddy for the Legislative Council chairman post.

One: he had earlier served as information minister during the combined Andhra Pradesh assembly and was assisting then Legislative Affairs minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu. As such, he was playing a key role in floor management.

Secondly, Somireddy has been under constant attack from the rival YSR Congress party leaders who are alleging that he had amassed huge wealth through ill-gotten means and he had parked his money in foreign countries.

Though Somireddy managed to wriggle out of the allegations with the help of police by getting the documents released by YSRC leaders as forged, the stigma of corruption will continue to remain for some time. If Somireddy continues to be active in the Nellore politics, he may have to face more and more such allegations

So, the best way is to send him to a safer zone. And there is no better place than the Legislative Council chairman post. Since it is a respectable position, the opposition party leaders think twice before hurling abuses or allegations against him. And being in the chair, he can always control the loud-mouths of the rival parties!
