Naidu Sees Cong-Led Front At Centre In 2019!

Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu has been maintaining strategic silence to the criticism from his political rivals that he is gradually getting closer to the Congress party.

Ever since he went to Bengaluru to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Janata Dal (S) leader H D Kumaraswamy as the new chief minister of Karnataka last month and rubbed shoulders with Congress bosses including Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, his opponents, particularly the YSR Congress party and the Bharatiya Janata Party, have been accusing him inclining towards the Congress.

So far, Naidu has not come out with any vehement denial of this criticism, though his party leaders have been saying that he was only trying to build a federal front with regional parties.

During his interviews with national media on the occasion of completion of four years in power, Naidu tried to evade a direct answer.

“The Congress is not in picture at all in Andhra Pradesh. So, the question of having an alliance with it does not arise,” he said.

At the Centre, however, Naidu sees the formation of an anti-BJP front coming to power in 2019.

He did not specifically say it would be an anti-BJP and anti-Congress government at the Centre, thereby indicating that it could be a Congress-led front of regional parties forming the government.

He even pointed out that except the United Front experiment in 1996, it was always either the Congress-led front or the BJP-led front at power at the Centre.

“The regional parties are joining hands now because of their political compulsions. It is not so easy for them to form a coalition government at the Centre,” he said, indicating that they have to invariably back the Congress party in 2019.

On the TDP’s role, Naidu said his party would play a positive role in forming a stable coalition government at the Centre. It does mean, he is not averse to supporting the Congress-led coalition!
