Naidu open for an alliance with TRS?

It appears Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu is open for an alliance with the Telangana Rashtra Samithi in Telangana as part of a larger strategy to retain power in Andhra Pradesh.

Though he asked the Telangana TDP leaders not to make any statements regarding electoral alliances with other parties in 2019, he is understood have dropped enough hints that the TDP might have a possible alliance with the TRS.

The recent meeting of Naidu with KCR at the marriage of Paritala Sriram, son of TDP minister Paritala Sunitha, in Anantapur and the secret negotiations between KCR and another TDP leader Payyavula Kesav lent credence to the talk that the TDP and TRS might have a possible alliance in Telangana in 2019.

The question is why Naidu might go in for an alliance with the TRS in Telangana, where the TDP hardly has any stakes. Obviously, it is not to win a few seats in Telangana in alliance with the TRS, which would no way help the party. May be it will help the TDP to retain its identity in Telangana and nothing more than that.

Sources said there is definitely more to it than what meets the eye. While extending support to the TRS to keep the Congress party, the major threat to the ruling party, at bay in Telangana, Naidu is understood to be seeking the help of KCR in wooing the Seemandhra people in Telangana to support the TDP in Andhra.

“For the sake of jobs and professions, lakhs of Seemandhra people are staying in Hyderabad and surrounding areas, but their roots are firmly grounded in Andhra.

Most of their families are still Andhra and Naidu wants to seek their support through their kin in Hyderabad. If KCR can woo them here and campaign for the TDP, there is a possibility of their families in Andhra voting for the TDP,” sources said.

The TRS leadership is also interested in the proposal curious about such proposal as It is a sort of win-win situation for both the TDP and the TRS. KCR wants to checkmate the Congress Party’s grand alliance proposal by making TDP align with the pink party.
