Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and his Telangana counterpart K Chandrasekhar Rao might be bitter rivals politically and competing in governing the two Telugu States, but when it comes to favouring contractors, they seem to have similar thinking.
It is now an open secret that Naidu had favoured major construction company – Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Limited (MEIL) promoted by Krishna Reddy in awarding contract of controversial Pattiseema lift irrigation project.
In fact, Naidu had to face a lot of criticism from his political rivals, particularly YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, for showing undue favour to Megha in Pattiseema project by accepting 25 per cent escalation in tender price. But Naidu went ahead with the project.
Surprisingly, the same company is now all set to bag the prestigious water grid project contract worth over Rs 20,000 crore.
The TRS government did not go in for global tenders, but allegedly allowed the Megha to bag the contract through backdoor methods. And one can imagine the scale of scam involved in it.
