Strange are the ways of Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.
He does not lose any opportunity to gain publicity for every event, even it is related to the same project again and again.
On Monday, Naidu dedicated the diaphragm wall of the Polavaram major irrigation project to the nation.
No doubt it is a major milestone in the completion of the gigantic project and a first of its kind in the country’s irrigation field. No doubt, the construction of diaphragm wall was completed in a record time.
But it is just a part of the entire Polavaram project. And there is a long way to go to complete the project works.
However, Naidu wanted to gain publicity even for the completion of diaphragm wall works.
While his office released big news items to the media, Naidu himself went to Polavaram site and dedicated the works to nation, claiming it as a major achievement of his government.
First of all, it is a national project fully-funded by the Centre and the Naidu government is only executing the same. So, the credit should go to the Centre.
Secondly, it is surprising on the part of Naidu to dedicate only a part of Polavaam project to nation, as if he has completed the entire project. Needless to say, the hungama is only to gain some political mileage for his party.
This is not the first time that he has dedicated the parts of Polavaram project to nation. Earlier, he had done it in the case of Pattiseema project, which is nothing but a part of Polavaram right canal works.
Not only that, Naidu also laid several foundations for the project, notwithstanding the earlie foundations laid by his predecessor chief ministers.
He laid foundation stones for every work – like construction of coffer dam, spillway channel and iconic bridge etc.
In fact, construction of coffer dam is a routine affair as part of the project work to divert the water flow during the construction of the main dam. There is no need for any separate foundation stone for it. Yet, Naidu did it as if it is a major milestone in the project!
Obviously, Naidu wants to claim that it was he who had actually taken up the Polavaram dam works.
