The YSR Congress party has pooh-poohed the so-called call given by Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu for protection of rivers in the country and said it was Naidu who was responsible for drying of rivers.
YSRC leaders Vellampalli Srinivas and Malladi Vishnu said spiritual guru Jaggi Vasudev who kick-started the 'Rally For Rivers' movement, might lose his respect by having Chandrababu seated by his side rooting for protection of rivers.
“This is ridiculous. Naidu has been staying in an illegal construction on the banks of the Krishna River and hence, he has no moral rights to participate in the Rally for Rivers or talk about rivers protection,” they said.
They said that in his tenure as chief minister, Naidu had not taken any action at right time when Alamatii Dam height was raised and the consequence is felt now with no water coming in to Krishna. They criticised that the sorry state of Krishna River was because of Naidu.
