The much-hyped fast-unto-death by so-called strongman of Kapu community Mudragada Padmanabham has turned out to be a damp squib, as he has achieved nothing much after enacting such a high drama.
On the other hand, Telugu Desam Party president and AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu clearly gained an upper hand in dousing the fire ignited by the Kapu agitation.
Finally, there was nothing much in the assurances given by Naidu to Mudragada, who had created an impression that he would not succumb to any sort of political pressures.
The biggest disappointment was, however, for YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, who sought to capitalise on the Kapu agitation.
He sent his envoys Botsa Satyanarayana, Ummareddy Venkateshwarlu and Ambati Rambabu to fasting Mudragada, but even before they came to his residence to express solidarity, the Kapu leader withdrew his agitation.
What was more disappointing was the statement of Mudragada, who declared that he and his wife would prostrate before Naidu and wash his feet, if the TDP government fulfilled its promise of including Kapus into BC list.
He also expressed his apologies to Naidu for making unsavoury comments against the latter during the agitation.
Nobody expected that he would stoop so low and degrade himself. This was definitely not to the liking of Jagan, who has been fighting tooth and nail against Naidu for not fulfilling the promises made in manifesto. At least now, Jagan should keep away from such turncoats.
