The furor over the lack of women representation in KCR's cabinet is uncalled for. Merit and not gender, should be the sole criteria for a Minister’s post.
That the Congress and other parties are taking up this issue in a big manner shows a sad paucity of ideas. There is absolutely no evidence to indicate that women make for better administrators.
In fact, four Ministers in the BJP cabinet, Sushma Swaraj, Vasundhara Raje, CM of Rajasthan, Smriti Irani and Pooja Munde, Minister in the Maharashtra government have let the nation down badly.
And queen of corruption Jayalalitha needs no introduction. So, reservation for women in legislative bodies and cabinets will solve no purpose.
DK Aruna is now about to file a PIL asking for women to be inducted in KCR’s cabinet. By the way, her daughter Snigdha Reddy is resorting to illegal mining in vast tracts of land.
All that KCR needs to do is create a dummy portfolio and put a woman in charge. End of story!
