MLAs Feeling Bored With Assembly Sessions?

Assembly sessions are meant for discussing people’s issues and the MLAs will get an opportunity to raise the problems confronting their respective assembly constituencies so that the government would take concrete steps.

In the past, assembly sessions had a lot of sanctity as there used to be meaningful discussions and the MLAs used to participate in the debates enthusiastically. The sessions used to run for at least 100 days a year.

However, of late, the MLAs seem to have lost their interest in the assembly because they feel it is just a time waste exercise.

The opposition parties say they do not get enough opportunity to speak, while the ruling party tries to browbeat the opposition.

As a result, most of the MLAs stopped coming to the assembly and those who attend want the sessions to end at the earliest.

Take for example, the ongoing winter session of the assembly in Telangana. Initially, it was proposed to hold the session for 50 days, but both the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi and the Opposition MLAs want the session to be curtailed.

While the TRS legislators expressed view that the administration slowdown in the wake of the assembly and council proceedings, the opposition MLAs are more interested in going into the people rather than attacking the TRS in the assembly.

As a result, the winter session which was supposed to head for 50 days is to be reduced to 30 days. As per the sources, the session is likely to end on November 23.

Even the Andhra assembly has lost its significance with the YSR Congress party staying away from the winter session that commenced on Friday. As a result, the ruling TDP has decided to confine the session to just 10 days!
