Mahanadu, A Dull And Drab Affair?

Mahanadu, A Dull And Drab Affair?

Mahanadu, the biennial mega mela of the Telugu Desam Party, concluded in Visakhapatnam on Monday evening, might have been claimed as “mother of all mahanadus” by party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, but media persons who covered the event described it as the dullest one they had ever seen.

According to sources, Mahanadu focussed mostly on establishing the power centres – Naidu and his son Nara Lokesh, rather than introspecting on the lapses in the administration and internal wrangling in the party.

Only once, Naidu made a reference to the statements made by some senior party leaders violating the discipline and said the unfortunate developments in the party were because of his lack of concentration on the party.

“The whole purpose of Mahanadu appeared to be projecting Lokesh as the heir apparent for Naidu. All the leaders were trying to get into the good books of Lokesh and Naidu, rather than discussing the key issues confronting the state,” a senior journalist said.

Naturally, the YSR Congress party lashed out at the gala celebrations in the name of Mahanadu, at a time when farmers of the state were in deep distress due to lack of Minimum Support Price (MSP).

The party also found fault with Naidu ignoring the family members of NTR.

"It is unfortunate that not a single member of the NTR family has shared the dais during the Mahanadu which coincides with the birthday of the founder leader of the Party who was ousted by Chandrababu Naidu," a senior party leader said.
