Liquor, meat, money in Singareni polls!

Liquor, meat, money in Singareni polls!

The Singareni Collieries trade union elections scheduled to be held on October 5 have become very prestigious for both the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi and the opposition parties, as they are considered to be a sort of semi-final for the 2019 general elections.

The coal mines are spread over five districts covering as many as 12 assembly constituencies. In 2014, all these seats were won by the TRS. So, any defeat in the elections would mean there is an anti-establishment vote against the TRS. So, the ruling party is hell bent on winning the Singareni elections at any cost.

The TRS-backed Telangana Boggu Gani Karmika Sangham (TBGKS) headed by Nizamabad MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha, daughter of chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is going all out to achieve the goal.

The major Opposition parties – the Congress, the TDP and the Communists have formed a grand alliance to defeat the ruling party to create an anti-establishment wave before the general elections.

The Congress-affiliated Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) and CPI-affiliated All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), which were bitter rivals in the past, joined hands along with Telugu Desam Party-backed Telugu Nadu Trade Union Council (TNTUC) to defeat the TRS-led union.

The Congress has alleged that the TRS is violating all the electoral ethics in Singareni elections.

“KCR himself is making telephonic calls to trade union leaders on a day-to-day basis and alluring and threatening them to vote for TBGKS. His personal team is busy distribute lakhs of rupees, sheep/meat and wine bottles to trade union leaders and Singareni employees,” he alleged.
