Learning from 'Hudhud': Naidu's welcome move

The recent ‘Hudhud’ cyclone might have ravaged Vizag, but thankfully there was no loss of life and it has thrown up opportunities on improving the infrastructure of the city and ensuring it is better prepared in future.

Vizag is all set to become the first city in the country to go in for underground power cabling.

The cabling would be fully automated with high end technology and power outage management system.

The faults would be detected instantly but would not cause power interruption.

The entire project is expected to cost around Rs 1200 crore and funding would be sourced from the Central government failing which external financial agencies would be approached.

During ‘Hudhud’ approximately around 1 lakh poles were uprooted and several transformers and structures were badly damaged resulting in a loss of nearly Rs 700 crores.

So, this investment of Rs 1200 crore does make sense indeed and is a welcome move!

Apparently, the initiative was taken by Chandrababu Naidu after he visited the city and saw the damage wreaked by the cyclone.

Now, these are the kinds of ‘smart’ solutions expected from the Chief Minister.
