Krishna District To Be Named After NTR?

If Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu has his way, coastal Andhra district of Krishna would be named after TDP founder and former chief minister N T Rama Rao on May 28, the birth anniversary of the legend actor.

According to sources, a file to this effect is said to be doing rounds in the Andhra Pradesh Secretariat and once the legal formalities are completed, it would get the approval from the chief minister. NTR hails from Nimmakuru of Gudivada mandal in Krishna district.

The demand for renaming Krishna district after NTR was raised during the TDP meeting recently on the occasion of his death anniversary.

Several leaders reportedly pointed out that when former chief minister late Y S Rajasekhar Reddy had Kadapa district in his name, there was nothing wrong in naming NTR’s native district after him. Naidu is said to have agreed for the same.

Apart from YSR, the only other former chief minister on whose name a district had been renamed was Prakasam (for Ongole district). Though Nellore district was also renamed after Sri Potti Sreeramulu, he was not a chief minister but a freedom fighter who sacrificed his life by undertaking fast unto death for creation of Andhra state.
