Konathala Gets Clearance To Join TDP

Decks seem to have been cleared for the entry of former minister Konathala Ramakrishna into the Telugu Desam Party, with two of his close aides – Araku MLA Kidari Sarveshwar Rao and former Pendurthi MLA Gandi Babji – deciding to quit the YSR Congress party and join the ruling party.

Konathala, who has virtually been in political oblivion ever since he was expelled from the YSR Congress party, is learnt to have got clearance from TDP president and AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

Though he wanted to join the TDP long ago, there was stiff resistance from other senior TDP leaders from Visakhapatnam district including minister Ganta Srinivas Rao and Anakapalle MP Avanthi Srinivas, for the simple reason that Konathala being a senior leader, would harm their political interests.

However, Naidu is learnt to have convinced the local TDP leaders that he would use Konathala’s services in a different way so that he would not come in their political career.

The entry of Konathala, he said, would give a big boost to the TDP in Visakhapatnam district. Another minister Ayyanna Patrudu is strongl lobbying in favour of Konathala. The admission of Sarveshwar Rao and Babji is an indication to the green signal given to Konathala, say sources.
