KCR Plan To Destroy Public Gardens?

Congress senior leader and former MLA M Kondada Reddy on Thursday expressed fears that any change in the design of Hyderabad Metro Rail Project would completely eliminate the identity of Public Gardens.

Speaking to media persons at Gandhi Bhavan here, Kodanda Reddy strongly opposed the change in Metro Rail route near Assembly by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.

He said if Metro Rail is diverted to the backside of Jubilee Hall, then it would completely eliminate the Public Gardens from the map.

He said former Chief Minister N T Rama Rao has already done the damage to Bagh-e-Aaam (Public Gardens) by constructing Lalith Kala Thoranam and Telugu University during his tenure. Therefore, the remaining parts of Public Gardens too would be lost if Metro Rail's route map is modified.

Kondanda Reddy said that the government should take wise decisions to ensure that the heritage and historical structures of Hyderabad remain intact.

He said any lapses would lead to extinction of city's landmarks and future generations would not be able to see the real Hyderabad that exists today.

He questioned as to why the Telangana Rashtra Samithi did not protest when the L&T began works near Assembly and Sultan Bazar. He said that the TRS remained silent when the L&T erected pillars on the Assembly road for the last several months.

He also demanded preservation of Falanuma Palace which he claimed is facing negligence by the authorities.
