KCR In Second Thoughts On Nalgonda?

KCR In Second Thoughts On Nalgonda?

Telangana Rashtra Samithi president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is said to be in second thoughts over going in for by-poll for Nalgonda parliamentary seat by making sitting MP Gutha Sukhender Reddy resign from the seat.

The original plan was to appoint Gutha Sukhender Reddy the chairman of Telangana state-level farmers’ coordination committee by giving it a constitutional status and Reddy the cabinet rank.

Once Reddy quits, there would be by-elections to the Nalgonda seat and by winning it, KCR wanted to prove his superiority over the opposition before the 2019 general elections.

However, KCR has realised that the constitution of farmers’ coordination committees from district level to the state level is easier said than done.

The opposition parties are raising a lot of hue and cry, since all these committees comprise only the TRS leaders and the government wants to entrust them with the responsibility of distributing Rs 8,000 per acre to farmers every year.

This smacks of large scale corruption and since these committees are believed to be parallel power centres at the village level, there is every possibility that their appointment would be challenged in the court of law.

So, it is a complicated issue. Moreover, the TRS chief has also got the feedback that winning Nalgonda seat is also not so easy as there is every possibility that the opposition parties are going to put up a joint fight. And if the TRS loses Nalgonda, it will be the beginning of the party’s downfall.

Hence, KCR is planning to drop the idea of holding by-polls to Nalgonda seat, say sources.
