'Jala Drushyam,' A Hit Or A Flop?

The power point presentation made by the Congress party in the city on Wednesday to nail the blatant lies of Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on the irrigation projects received appreciation from the audiences, but one wonders whether it is enough to take on the TRS government.

Telangana PCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy and official spokesman Dasoju Sravan tried to prove wrong the claims of KCR that the total irrigated ayacut in Telangana was only 19 lakh acres created during the Kakatiya kings and the Nizam government and that his government would provide water to over one crore acres in the next three years through redesigning of existing irrigation projects.

“By saying so, KCR wanted to convey to the people that the Congress and the TDP governments had done nothing for irrigation sector in the last 50 years. If that is the case, who had constructed Nagarjunasagar, Srisailam, Sriramsagar, Singur, Yellampalli, Manair, Devadula, Jurala, Kalwakurthy, Nettempadu and Bhima and other projects, which have been irrigating lakhs of acres of ayacut?” they asked.

"The time Congress came to power in 2004, the available ayacut was 48 lakh acres and between 2004 and 2014, the government had created irrigation potential for another 50 lakh acres by taking up various projects. Some of them have been completed and most of them were nearing completion. Instead of completing the pending projects, the KCR government is trying to claim them as its own,” they said.

If there is irrigation facility for 98 lakh acres, all that the KCR can do is to provide irrigation for another 12 lakh acres.

“For that, he is spending Rs 1.5 lakh crore in the name of redesigning. This is nothing but looting the public money,” they alleged.

Though there is a lot of material in the Congress leaders’ arguments, one doubts whether it would go into people correctly as the media is virtually in the control of KCR!
